What to Wear for

Fall Family Photos

Fall is the most popular time to get family photos! Not only is the weather (usually) much cooler, but we have absolutely stunning foliage here in New England!

Figuring out what to wear for outdoor family photos can be nerve-wracking. I’ve put together an outfit guide to help you prepare!

Basic Tips

  1. Avoid matching outfits. Contrary to popular belief, matching head-to-toe is not what you should do.

  2. Choose clothing that YOU feel comfortable in. If you know which styles of shirts, sweaters, and jeans look good on you, stick with that! If you feel good, you’ll look good.

  3. Dress for the weather. Fall is beautiful, but it can get pretty chilly. Watch the weather and wear layers if needed! (Scarves, mittens, and boots can be cute too!)

  4. Avoid wearing logos, graphics, and neon colors.

  5. Choose a color palette! Pick one or two fall colors for the family, and then mix with neutrals. I dive into this one more in the section below.

Also…..

  • Make sure you have clean nails

  • Hair styled how you prefer it; be mindful of any potential wind in the forecast!

  • Test your outfit for mobility and a secure and comfortable fit

  • If you typically wax your eyebrows or get facials done, make sure this is scheduled a few days ahead of our session

  • No last minute haircuts or experimenting with new makeup/lashes unless you’ve tested it out!

Fall Color Palettes

Boston and New England are absolutely beautiful in every season, but autumn is when New England shows off all of its colors. It is absolutely my favorite season.

When thinking about what you should wear, your main goal (in addition to staying warm) should be to compliment your surroundings. One of the best ways to do this is the think about the muted versions of colors you love.

Below are some of my favorite color palette ideas!
